Toyota Recalls 600,000 Vehicles Over Display and Shock Defects

Toyota is recalling approximately 655,000 Camry vehicles globally, including 508,354 model year 2025-2026 Camry Hybrids in the United States, due to a software error in the instrument cluster display. The 7-inch display combination meter may go blank during startup, which can deactivate critical safety indicators such as turn signals, hazard lights, seat belt warnings, and smart key reminders.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warned that these failures increase crash risks by hindering a driver's visibility of indicators and the ability of other road users to recognize the driver's intent. The affected Camrys were produced between December 2023 and July 2026 at plants in the United States, Japan, and Thailand. Toyota Motor North America will notify U.S. owners between September 21 and early October, and certified dealers will provide a free software update.

Additionally, the automaker issued a separate recall for approximately 48,000 Tacoma TRD Off-Road pickup trucks from model years 2024-2025. A hardware defect allows corrosion to build up on shock absorber assemblies, which may cause the external oil reservoir to detach while the vehicle is in motion. Toyota will inspect and replace compromised shock units free of charge, with owner notifications expected by early October 2026.
