Dale Vince to Invest in London Local News Group
Entrepreneur Dale Vince plans to invest in the Camden New Journal group to expand local coverage and counter right-wing media bias in London.
Green energy entrepreneur and Labour donor Dale Vince plans to launch a London-wide news operation by investing in the loss-making group that publishes the Camden New Journal, Islington Tribune, and Westminster Extra. Vince intends to transition the titles to a digital-first model and expand the Westminster edition to cover the broader London area.
Vince stated that his motivation is a response to the "rightwing bias" in UK media and the emergence of local news deserts in the capital, noting that London is missing a local paper following the demise of previous publications. The initiative follows a general decline in London-focused journalism, including the 2024 closure of the Evening Standard's daily print edition.
While the rescue package is not yet formally finalized, Vince intends to remain a generally "hands-off" investor, though he may contribute occasional op-eds. He aims to put the group on a better financial footing to ensure the sustainability of local journalism.
