Intel Corporation Invests €5 Billion to Expand Ireland Chip Campus

Intel Corporation is investing €5 billion in its Leixlip campus to increase production of Intel 3 wafers and Xeon 6 processors for AI and cloud computing.

Intel Corporation is investing €5 billion ($5.7 billion) to expand its semiconductor manufacturing campus in Leixlip, County Kildare, Ireland. The investment represents roughly 30% of the company's planned 2026 capital expenditure and follows the restoration of full operational control over the site in April 2026.

The funding focuses on upgrading fabrication facilities and installing advanced equipment to scale the output of Intel 3 node wafers. These wafers are used to produce Xeon 6 and next-generation Xeon server processors essential for artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure. The Leixlip site serves as Intel Corporation's sole global production site for the Intel 3 process and is the only high-volume extreme ultraviolet lithography facility in Europe.

Beyond fabrication, the project includes expanding the campus's automated track system for material transport to create a high-velocity production environment. Intel Corporation expects to complete the majority of the investment by 2027. The expansion is projected to create several hundred permanent high-tech roles and employ approximately 2,000 specialized tradespeople during the installation phase.

Government officials and Intel Corporation executives stated the move strengthens Europe's semiconductor supply chain and technology sovereignty, reducing reliance on overseas sources. Intel Corporation has operated in Ireland since 1989, with total historical spending in the country now exceeding €30 billion.
