Global Economists Praise India's Growth at Kautilya Conclave
Global economists at the 5th Kautilya Economic Conclave in New Delhi identified India as a primary driver of world economic growth and a leader among emerging nations.
Global economists gathered in New Delhi for the 5th Kautilya Economic Conclave to analyze the economic trajectory of India. Participants characterized the nation as a leader among emerging economies and a primary actor in addressing global challenges despite a rise in international protectionism.
Swedish economist Daniel Waldenström noted that the focus on growth is positive for expanding infrastructure and education. He recommended that policymakers prioritize addressing income inequality over wealth inequality, suggesting that the government tax capital income, such as dividends and corporate profits, rather than inheritance or wealth.
Other international experts emphasized India's systemic importance to the global economy. Former European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet and Chinese economist Zhang Liqing both highlighted India's role as a central force in international growth. The group concluded that maintaining a commitment to free trade, education, and sustained growth is essential for India to preserve its position as a major global economic power.
