Adrian Ramsay Warns Green Party Faces Hard-Left Crossroads
Former Green Party leader Adrian Ramsay warned the party faces a crossroads following the passage of a controversial motion declaring Zionism as racism.
Former Green Party leader Adrian Ramsay warned that the party has reached a crossroads and must reform its internal democracy to prevent a takeover by hard-left members. Ramsay argued that a small group of new members, including those from movements associated with George Galloway and Jeremy Corbyn, are using divisive tactics to shift the party's direction.
He specifically criticized the passage of a motion declaring Zionism as racism at a party conference, noting that only 0.4% of members voted for the measure and that it contradicts the 2024 manifesto. While Ramsay did not call for the resignation of current leader Zack Polanski, he criticized Polanski for failing to attend the debate on the motion.
Zack Polanski and deputy leaders Rachel Millward and Mothin Ali rejected Ramsay's framing of the situation. The party leadership asserted that environmental justice is inseparable from social, racial, and economic justice, maintaining that there is no contradiction between advocating for human rights and protecting nature.
