UK Agencies Order Recalls for Salmonella and Allergen Risks

The Food Standards Agency and other regulators ordered multiple recalls across UK retailers due to salmonella contamination, undeclared allergens, and labeling errors.

The Food Standards Agency and Norfolk Trading Standards issued a series of urgent product recalls across the United Kingdom this week following reports of contamination and safety hazards. The most severe action involved the withdrawal of shell eggs from Ukrainian producer Yasensvit Ltd after the products were linked to 36 salmonella cases in England.

Other food safety warnings targeted several major retailers. Greencore recalled five products from Tesco and M&S due to salmonella in pistachio nuts, while Unilever recalled Pot Noodle Piri Piri Chicken Flavour for undeclared milk. Halo Foods Ltd recalled snack bars sold at Asda and Sainsbury's for undeclared peanuts, and Gilbert's Kosher Foods Limited recalled chopped liver containing wheat. Labeling errors also triggered recalls, including Waitrose tuna pâté with incorrect use-by dates and Lambertz Christmas cookies at Home Bargains that lacked English allergen declarations.

Beyond food, the Office for Product Safety and Standards identified a hazard with Mint Velvet Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals sold by Next. The agency found the footbeds could dislodge, creating a fall risk for consumers.
