US Strikes Iranian Air Defenses After Drone Shoot-Down

The United States reportedly struck Iranian air defense systems in Hormozgan province following an Iranian claim that it shot down a US drone.

Reports of up to six explosions occurred Monday near Qeshm Island and the port city of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan province, with additional blasts reported in Bandar Lengeh. The Islamic Republic News Agency stated the cause of the explosions was unclear, though Iranian air defenses were reportedly activated at Omidiyeh Airbase.

Israeli broadcaster N12 reported that the United States conducted the strikes against an Iranian air defense system. N12 characterized the action as part of a series of limited, unannounced US operations carried out over recent weeks. The United States has not officially confirmed the military action.

The strikes followed a claim by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that it had shot down an advanced US drone over the Strait of Hormuz earlier that day.
