Micron Technology Exits Consumer Market to Prioritize AI Hardware
Micron Technology is exiting the consumer memory market following a 56 percent revenue increase driven by surging AI data center server demand.
Micron Technology reported a 56 percent year-over-year revenue increase to $13.6 billion and a 178 percent surge in net income to $5.2 billion for its fiscal 2026 first quarter ending November 27. The financial growth stems from an intense demand for memory hardware essential to AI data center servers, which has created a market shortage where demand exceeds supply by 10 percent.
This supply gap contributed to a 50 percent increase in dynamic random access memory prices over the previous quarter. To further prioritize production of AI hardware, the company announced on December 3 that it is exiting the consumer memory market entirely.
Despite a 247 percent increase in its stock price over the last year, the company currently trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 11. This valuation remains significantly lower than that of industry peers such as Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
