UK Security Official Visits Lebanon to Support Peace Framework

UK Deputy National Security Adviser Dame Barbara Woodward concluded a two-day visit to Lebanon on July 2, 2026, aimed at reaffirming the United Kingdom's commitment to the country's security and sovereignty. Accompanied by Ambassador Hamish Cowell, Woodward held meetings with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Speaker Nabih Berri, Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri, and Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal.

The discussions centered on extending state authority across Lebanon and achieving a political settlement aligned with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Woodward specifically welcomed a new trilateral framework agreement involving Lebanon, Israel, and the United States. This agreement seeks to facilitate the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the disarmament of Hizballah, and the full deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

To support these objectives, the UK pledged continued assistance to the Lebanese Armed Forces through the provision of training, equipment, and border security infrastructure. This military support is paired with ongoing humanitarian and development aid to ensure regional stability.
