Mondi Launches Laser-Marked Recyclable Flexible Packaging

Mondi introduced a new packaging format that integrates a corrugated outer carton with recyclable flexible packaging. The system utilizes laser-marking technology to apply artwork directly to the flexible packaging during the converting process, which removes the requirement for standard decorative printing and printing plates.

This technology allows companies to customize packaging and update designs rapidly to meet shifting market demands. The format is compatible with reels, pre-made pouches, and larger bags. To support circularity, the packaging can incorporate post-consumer recycled content or bio-based feedstocks.

Jens Koesters, Mondi's consumer flexibles R&D and innovation technical service manager, stated that the concept enables brands to respond more quickly to market requirements while advancing circularity goals. The company is currently collaborating with partners to expand commercial use within the home and personal care, pet food, and e-commerce sectors.
