AI Drives Surge of One-Person Companies Across China

Artificial intelligence is fueling a rise in one-person companies in China, with over 16 million such enterprises registered as of June 2025.

Artificial intelligence is fueling a surge in one-person companies (OPCs) across China, enabling young entrepreneurs to manage product design, marketing, and operations with minimal teams. As of June 2025, China recorded over 16 million one-person limited liability companies, which account for 27.4% of all enterprises nationwide.

To support this growth, cities are establishing specialized infrastructure. In Hefei, the Starshine OPC Entrepreneur Community provides free office space and business matching services to help solo startups mitigate high operating costs and fragmented resources. The community also hosts monthly AI training sessions focused on marketing and intelligent office tools to improve the technical proficiency of young entrepreneurs.

Other major urban centers are competing for AI talent through different strategies. Shanghai has registered 169 large language models to support emerging OPC business models, while Suzhou is positioning itself as a global innovation hub to attract solo entrepreneurs. Academic analysis suggests this trend is reshaping how productivity is organized, providing ordinary citizens greater opportunities to participate in market innovation.
