Deezer Removes AI Tracks as Daily Uploads Exceed 50 Percent

Deezer announced on July 21, 2026, that fully AI-generated recordings exceeded 50% of daily new music uploads for the first time. These uploads peaked in June 2026, reaching approximately 90,000 tracks per day. To combat streaming fraud and reduce storage costs, the French music streaming service is now removing AI tracks suspected of fraud or those that have not been streamed for at least six months.

The company reports that up to 85% of streams on fully AI tracks were fraudulent. Since January 2025, Deezer has employed a proprietary detection system to tag 100% AI-generated content from models like Suno and Udio. These specific tracks are excluded from editorial playlists and algorithmic recommendations.

Company leadership framed the move as a necessity for both financial and environmental reasons. CEO Alexis Lanternier stated that the company is taking steps to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters against payment dilution, while Chief Innovation Officer Aurelien Herault noted that removing content that uses excessive storage space is an ecological issue as well as an economic one.
