IWG CEO Predicts End of Commuting by 2040

Mark Dixon, CEO of IWG, predicts that commuting will be extinct by 2040 as the workplace becomes ubiquitous and digitally driven. Citing research from IWG and Arup Group, Dixon asserts that Generation Alpha will view traveling long distances to use a computer as an obsolete concept.

This transition is expected to accelerate as younger leaders replace retiring Boomer and Gen X executives. This trend is supported by National Bureau of Economic Research findings indicating that younger CEOs are more likely to permit remote work and adopt new technologies.

Dixon argues that companies prioritizing physical office presence over AI integration risk failure. Tech founder Brian O’Kelley supports this view, suggesting that a strict return-to-office culture hinders a company's ability to attract top global talent and effectively implement AI.
