Scott Fitzpatrick Wins Second Term as Missouri State Auditor
Republican Scott Fitzpatrick defeated Democratic challenger Quentin Wilson to secure a second term as Missouri state auditor.
Republican Scott Fitzpatrick won a second term as Missouri state auditor on Tuesday, defeating Democratic challenger Quentin Wilson. Fitzpatrick secured 50% of the vote, while Wilson received 47% and Libertarian candidate Dustin Coffell took 3%.
The victory ensures Republicans maintain control of all six statewide elected offices in Missouri. However, the party lost its supermajorities in the Missouri House and Senate, as well as a congressional seat in the St. Louis suburbs, during the same election cycle.
Fitzpatrick campaigned on his record of uncovering waste and fraud in local governments and warned that state spending is outpacing revenue growth. He cautioned that general revenue reserves could be exhausted by fiscal 2028. During his first term, Fitzpatrick expanded the auditor's office authority to launch audits based on whistleblower complaints and utilized subpoena power to investigate local government wrongdoing.
Wilson campaigned on a platform of restructuring the auditor's office to increase government efficiency, claiming such a move could save taxpayers up to $1 billion annually.
