Kia Recalls 462,869 Telluride SUVs Over Power Seat Fire Risk
Kia America is recalling nearly 463,000 Telluride SUVs from 2020-2024 after seat motors overheated and caused fires following an insufficient 2024 repair effort.
Kia America is recalling 462,869 Telluride SUVs from model years 2020-2024, manufactured between January 9, 2019, and May 29, 2024, due to a fire risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that if a front power seat slide knob or side cover is damaged by external force, the motor may operate continuously and overheat. This can lead to fires whether the vehicle is being driven or is parked.
This action replaces a previous 2024 recall attempt that Kia determined was insufficient due to sporadic dealer workmanship issues. Between October 2024 and April 2026, the automaker's safety office identified 18 incidents consisting of seven seat fires and 11 melted motors, though no injuries or crashes were reported.
To resolve the defect, dealers will install an electronic fuse assembly and a protective bracket, and replace the slide knobs free of charge. Repairs are expected to be available starting around July 17, 2026, and owner notifications will be mailed on August 13. Kia will also reimburse owners for repair fees previously incurred under a plan filed April 30, 2026. Until the repairs are complete, both the automaker and the NHTSA advise owners to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings.
