Rigathi Gachagua Warns of Voter Resistance in 2027 Election

Former Deputy President and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua warned that Kenyan voters might arm themselves to protect their ballots in the 2027 General Election if confidence in electoral security remains low. During a KTN interview from his residence in Nairobi, Gachagua stated that voting alone is no longer sufficient and urged citizens to protect their votes, citing the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election as a template for active defense.

Gachagua accused the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of failing to ensure a free and fair process and alleged that violence prevented 20,000 people from voting during the Ol Kalou by-election. He specifically accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen of transforming the National Police Service into a militia used for electoral interference. Gachagua argued that citizens have a right to defend themselves against armed police.

Despite these warnings, Gachagua asserted that 95 percent of the National Police Service rank-and-file will disobey illegal orders to rig the vote. He claimed the scale of over 50,000 polling stations makes widespread chaos or theft impossible. Gachagua further warned that any attempts by President William Ruto to steal the election or incite violence would be resisted by the people.

Regarding coalition strategy, Gachagua announced that the United Opposition's presidential candidate for 2027 will be selected based on the number of votes each principal can marshal.
