Moldova Summons Russian Ambassador After Drones Crash in Territory

Moldova summoned the Russian ambassador after three drones violated its airspace and two exploded during a massive Russian aerial assault on Ukraine.

The Government of Moldova summoned Russian Ambassador Oleg Ozerov on October 1 following a violation of its airspace during a large-scale Russian attack on Ukraine. The Moldovan Defense Ministry reported that three unmanned aerial vehicles entered the country's airspace on September 30, with two of the drones falling and exploding on Moldovan territory.

One explosion occurred near the village of Hîrbovăț in the Anenii Noi district at approximately 5:43 a.m. While Moldova reported no casualties, the incident coincided with a massive Russian barrage involving 188 drones and various missiles targeting Ukraine. Ukrainian forces intercepted 155 drones and five missiles, but strikes still hit 18 locations.

In Kyiv, the attacks killed two women and injured five people. In Vyshhorod, rescuers recovered the body of a child from a destroyed home. The drones that crashed in Moldova remain unidentified, but the diplomatic summons indicates Chisinau's intent to hold the Russian Federation accountable for the airspace violations.
