Kashmiri Pandit Employees Demand Security After Targeted Threat Letters

The All PM Package Employees Forum Kashmir petitioned the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir on August 24, 2026, for enhanced security following a series of targeted threats against Kashmiri Pandit employees. A group calling itself the United Liberation Council (ULC) issued a threat poster on August 23 that included sensitive personal information, such as house numbers, street names, and vehicle numbers, labeling the employees as "white collar terrorists" and "traitors."

This incident marks the second such threat in less than a month, following a warning in early August directed at Revenue Department employees. Security agencies are currently verifying the authenticity of the ULC communications and suspect the group may be a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba. The employees forum cited a pattern of weekly threats and previous targeted attacks as the cause of a deep sense of insecurity among staff and their families.

While some affected employees stated they will not be intimidated or flee the region, the threats have drawn political criticism. Congress MP Pawan Khera stated the incident exposes failures in the central government's Kashmir policy regarding the resettlement of displaced Pandits. The forum is now demanding a thorough investigation into the origin of the threats and a comprehensive security review of both residential and work sites.
