President Murmu Appoints Sudha Yadav as Karnataka Governor

President Droupadi Murmu appointed BJP veteran Sudha Yadav as the Governor of Karnataka, succeeding Thawar Chand Gehlot.

President Droupadi Murmu appointed Dr. Sudha Yadav as the Governor of Karnataka on Monday, succeeding Thawar Chand Gehlot, who completed a five-year term in office. The appointment was announced via a communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Yadav, 61, is a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and a former Member of Parliament who represented the Mahendragarh constituency in Haryana from 1999 to 2004. She entered politics following the death of her husband, BSF Deputy Commandant Sukhbir Singh Yadav, during the 1999 Kargil War. A doctorate holder in chemistry from IIT-Roorkee, she has held several high-ranking party positions, including BJP national secretary and head of the party's OBC Morcha.

Prior to this appointment, Yadav served as a member of the National Commission for Backward Classes and was inducted into the BJP's Central Parliamentary Board and Central Election Committee in August 2022. She becomes the second woman to serve as the governor of Karnataka, following VS Ramadevi. Observers describe the move as a recognition of her organizational career and a strategic decision regarding leadership dynamics in the Ahirwal belt of south Haryana.
