West Midlands Railway Averts Strikes for July 31 and August 1

West Midlands Railway confirmed the suspension of planned industrial action for Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1, 2026. Members of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) had scheduled the strikes over a dispute regarding rest day working payments, but suspended the action following further talks with the operator.

Rail services will now run on the normal timetable, avoiding severe disruptions that would have seen no trains on routes to Hereford, Shrewsbury, and Leamington Spa. Other affected areas included the Cross City Line and routes connecting Wolverhampton, Walsall, and Birmingham International.

Customer Experience Director Jonny Wiseman stated that the company was pleased the union suspended the action, which would have been disruptive for customers. While the main strikes are canceled, some disruption remains expected on the morning of Sunday, August 2, due to necessary train positioning.
