Samsung Electronics Overtakes Micron as Top Automotive Memory Supplier
Samsung Electronics has surpassed Micron Technology to become the global leader in automotive memory chips, capturing 40% of the market share.
Samsung Electronics has become the world's leading supplier of automotive memory chips, overtaking Micron Technology. According to data from S&P Global Mobility, Samsung increased its global market share in the automotive segment to 40% last year, rising from 35% in 2024.
This shift ends a long period of dominance by Micron Technology, which had led the sector since the early 1990s. Micron's market share declined from 40% to 36% over the same period. The automotive memory sector is characterized by long product cycles and strict reliability standards, making the leadership change a significant industry milestone.
The growth in this segment helps diversify Samsung's semiconductor portfolio. The company continues to lead the broader DRAM market, maintaining a 38% share as of the first quarter of 2026.
