McDonald's Third-Quarter Sales Beat Estimates Despite U.S. Decline
McDonald's reported third-quarter comparable sales growth of 1.5%, beating analyst expectations despite a slight decline in its United States market.
McDonald's reported third-quarter comparable sales growth of 1.5%, exceeding Bloomberg consensus estimates. While the growth rate was slower than the 3.6% recorded in the previous year, the company's overall financial results remained strong, with revenue rising 1.1% year-on-year to $7.16 billion.
Performance in the United States remained a challenge, with comparable sales declining by 0.2%. However, this dip was less severe than the expected 0.47% drop. The company attributed the U.S. decline to fewer guest visits, though this was partially offset by positive check growth. To combat cost-of-living pressures affecting lower-income customers, the company implemented value-driven promotions, including loyalty programs and buy-one-get-one deals.
Adjusted earnings per share reached $3.57, surpassing the $3.40 estimate. Following the announcement, shares of the company increased by more than 2% in premarket U.S. trading on Wednesday. CEO Chris Kempczinski stated he was "encouraged by improvement" following the value interventions.
