Bose Recalls Over 600,000 Battery Packs Due to Fire Risk
Bose is recalling hundreds of thousands of S1 Pro and S1 Pro+ battery packs after reports of overheating, smoking, and fire causing property damage.
The Bose Corporation is recalling hundreds of thousands of lithium-ion rechargeable battery packs used in S1 Pro and S1 Pro+ Portable Bluetooth Speaker Systems. The recall, announced in coordination with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, affects units sold in the United States and Canada between December 2017 and July 2026 through retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart.com.
While initial reports estimated the recall at over 600,000 units, subsequent updates specified the number of affected battery packs as 634,759, with some reports citing up to 670,000. The action follows seven reported instances of battery packs melting, smoking, or catching fire. Six of these incidents resulted in property damage, though no injuries have been reported.
Bose is providing free replacement battery packs to affected consumers. The company advises users to stop using the recalled battery packs immediately and avoid disposing of them in standard trash. The speaker systems remain usable if connected to AC power without the battery. Affected battery packs are identified by 17-digit serial numbers beginning with 083723, 078352, 084105, 078591, 078592, 084106, or 086409.
