Canva Targets 2027 IPO Amid AI Cost Pressures
Canva reports billions of documents and presentations created as it competes with Microsoft and Google while targeting a 2027 public offering.
Canva announced Thursday that its expansion into productivity software has led to the creation of 4.5 billion presentations and 1.4 billion documents. The Australian startup is challenging Microsoft Office and Google Workspace by integrating creativity and productivity tools through its Visual Suite.
The company reports strong mobile adoption in Southeast Asia, where over half of presentations begin on phones, including nearly two-thirds in Indonesia. This mobile-first trend is a central part of the company's strategy to capture users in Asia and Africa.
Despite the success of its AI web and mobile products, including the April release of Canva AI 2.0, high operational costs have impacted the company's financial outlook. These expenses forced Canva to reduce its revenue growth forecast to 20%. Despite this adjustment, the company maintains a valuation of approximately $42 billion and is targeting an initial public offering in 2027.
