Bernie Sanders Declares Progressive Revolution After Michigan Primary Wins

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders declared that a progressive political revolution has arrived in Michigan following the August 4 primary victories of three candidates he endorsed. Among the winners were U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, Congressional District 13 nominee Donavan McKinney, and Congressional District 7 nominee Will Lawrence.

Sanders described El-Sayed's victory over U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens as the most extraordinary event in modern American politics. He noted that El-Sayed overcame the Democratic establishment and approximately $70 million in outside spending, including funds from AIPAC. El-Sayed is now set to face Republican nominee Mike Rogers in the general election. Additionally, McKinney unseated incumbent U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar.

Sanders characterized these results as evidence that the Democratic Party is transforming from a top-down organization driven by wealthy contributors into a broad-based party of working people and youth. While the Democratic-aligned Senate Majority PAC produced an advertisement supporting El-Sayed, the Republican-aligned Senate Leadership Fund characterized the nominee as a dangerous threat to American safety and freedoms.
