U.S. Crude Oil Production Hit Record 13.6 Million Barrels Per Day

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports the United States reached a record crude oil production average of 13.6 million barrels per day in 2025.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that the United States reached its highest-ever crude oil production in 2025, averaging 13.6 million barrels per day. This figure surpassed the previous national and global record of 13.2 million barrels per day set in 2024 and extended a streak of U.S. global production leadership that began in 2018.

Growth was primarily driven by increased drilling productivity and operational efficiency in shale basins. The Permian Basin, spanning Texas and New Mexico, saw a 4% increase in output to 6.6 million barrels per day. These gains occurred despite a decline in West Texas Intermediate prices, which dropped from $77 in 2024 to $65 in 2025.

Global production trends varied among other major producers. Saudi Arabia increased output to 9.6 million barrels per day in 2025 as OPEC+ reduced voluntary cuts, while Russian production remained steady at 9.9 million barrels per day. The agency forecasts U.S. production will climb to 14.2 million barrels per day by 2027, supported by an expected rise in WTI prices to $88 per barrel in 2026.
