Adamawa Local Government Officials Defect from PDP to APC
Twenty-one local government chairmen and 226 councillors in Adamawa State defected from the PDP to the APC to align with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Twenty-one local government area chairmen and 226 councillors in Adamawa State defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress between October 19 and 20, 2026. The officials were elected on PDP tickets during the June 13, 2026, local government elections and were inaugurated on June 15.
The mass defection aligns the council leaders with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, whom they describe as their political godfather. Fintiri had previously left the PDP for the APC. Akham Jalo, chairman of Demsa Local Government Area, stated the move was intended to align with the governor's progressive vision to bring more development to his constituency.
Ahmed Galadima, the APC governorship candidate in Adamawa State, welcomed the shift on Thursday, describing it as a boost to the party's grassroots strength ahead of the 2027 general elections. Galadima linked the movement to President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and credited Fintiri's inclusive leadership style for increasing the party's appeal within the state.
