US Launches America by Design to Modernize Federal Interfaces
The United States federal government launched the America by Design initiative to standardize and modernize digital user interfaces across all federal agencies.
The Federal government of the United States launched a national initiative called America by Design through an executive order signed on August 21, 2025. The program seeks to modernize federal user interfaces to ensure that digital government services are intentional, standardized, and user-centered.
To implement this unified approach to service communication, the government established the National Design Studio and introduced the role of chief design officer. These additions are intended to provide leadership and a centralized framework for the modernization effort.
Federal agencies are required to produce tangible outcomes from these design updates by July 4, 2026.
