Former South Carolina Governors Endorse Democrat Annie Andrews
Former Republican Governor David Beasley and Democratic Governor Jim Hodges jointly endorsed Senate candidate Annie Andrews to combat political division in South Carolina.
Former South Carolina governors David Beasley, a Republican, and Jim Hodges, a Democrat, issued a joint endorsement for Democratic Senate candidate Annie Andrews on Monday. In a campaign video, the former political rivals stated that Andrews, a pediatrician, is the best candidate to prioritize the state and move beyond toxic political fighting.
Andrews is challenging incumbent Republican Senator Darline Graham, the Trump-endorsed sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. The endorsement follows a recent opinion piece by Beasley in which he described the current state of the Republican Party and the vitriol under Donald Trump as toxic.
While recent polling indicates Graham maintains a lead, the Cook Political Report has shifted the race's status from Likely Republican to Lean Republican. Other candidates competing in the race include Libertarian Kasie Whitener and Mark Hackett of the Constitution Party.
