Richard Tice Threatens Guardian to Reveal Confidential Sources

Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice issued a legal threat to the Guardian to compel the disclosure of confidential sources used in reporting on his financial transactions. The reporting detailed a secret £1 million donation to Reform UK through a vehicle managed by Tice and a £5 million gift to party leader Nigel Farage.

Bankers referred both transactions to the National Crime Agency over money laundering concerns. Tice and Farage are currently suing the National Crime Agency, with Tice alleging that the leaked financial information originated from within the agency. Farage previously claimed that details of his £5 million gift were obtained by Russian spies who hacked his phone, a claim the Guardian dismissed as absurd.

The Guardian, the News Media Association, and Index on Censorship condemned Tice's legal action. These organizations characterized the move as an attempt to intimidate journalists and deflect public attention from the financial scrutiny facing the party leaders.
