Digger Opens to $8 Million as Warner Bros. Faces Acquisition
Warner Bros. Discovery suffered a major box office failure with the film Digger just days before its acquisition by Paramount Skydance Corp.
The film Digger, directed by Alejandro Iñárritu and starring Tom Cruise, earned only $8 million during its opening weekend. The commercial failure marks a significant blow for Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., which has faced a series of financial setbacks throughout the year.
This disappointment follows the poor performance of other studio releases, including The Bride! and The End of Oak Street. Together, these films have resulted in cumulative losses of hundreds of millions of dollars for the studio.
Digger serves as the final release for Warner Bros. Discovery before its acquisition by Paramount Skydance Corp. The deal is scheduled to close on October 6.
