Pakistan and Bangladesh Partner on Sustainable Agrifood Systems
Pakistan and Bangladesh officials established a partnership in Rome to cooperate on agricultural trade, climate adaptation, and disease surveillance using a One Health approach.
Officials from Pakistan and Bangladesh met in Rome during the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems to establish a bilateral partnership for sustainable agrifood systems. Rana Tanveer Hussain, Pakistan's Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, led discussions with Bangladesh's Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintoo and Minister of State for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku.
The partnership focuses on expanding cooperation in agricultural trade, research, mechanization, and livestock breed improvement. The ministers specifically addressed shared vulnerabilities to climate change and emerging diseases, emphasizing the need for coordinated disease surveillance to protect rural livelihoods.
Both nations committed to the One Health approach, which integrates animal, human, and environmental health to strengthen food security. This strategy aims to mitigate the impact of environmental challenges on the agriculture-dependent economies of both countries.
