Kazakhstan Joins IOMed During Diplomatic Talks in Beijing
Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister signed the IOMed Convention during talks with China's Wang Yi to strengthen bilateral ties and prepare for President Tokayev's upcoming visit.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Kazakhstan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbayev met in Beijing on July 13, 2026, to advance bilateral relations and practical cooperation. The discussions focused on the upcoming visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to China, where he will attend the 2026 World AI Conference and a High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance.
During the talks, Wang Yi expressed support for Kazakhstan's national development and its entry into the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed). Kosherbayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan's commitment to the one-China principle and designated cooperation with China as a priority. He emphasized that the trust and friendship between the two nations would remain unaffected by any third parties.
The diplomatic session concluded with Kosherbayev officially signing the IOMed Convention on behalf of the government of Kazakhstan, formalizing the country's accession to the organization.
