Australian Stock Market Rises Amid Mining and Tech Shifts

The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.31 percent on Tuesday, driven by mining gains and a surge in Star Entertainment shares.

The S&P/ASX 200 index rose 0.31 percent to 8,837.40 during mid-market trading on October 27, 2026. The benchmark index followed positive cues from Wall Street, with growth primarily led by the financial and mining sectors, including gains for Rio Tinto, Mineral Resources, and BHP Group.

Star Entertainment Group saw shares surge over 17 percent after the company released a positive first-quarter trading update and turnaround report. In the technology sector, SCX.ai shares climbed nearly 9 percent after the company was named an Australian launch partner in the SpaceX Super Intelligence Partner Network. However, other tech stocks, including Xero and Block, experienced declines.

Brightstar Resources shares fell more than 5 percent following the announcement of an 82 million dollar single-tranche capital raising. The company intends to use the funds for its Sandstone gold exploration and development program in Western Australia. Market participants remain cautious as they await the release of inflation data on Wednesday to determine future interest rate outlooks.
