JetBlue Shares Surge After CEO Challenges Bond Market Narrative
JetBlue Airways shares rose Tuesday after CEO Joanna Geraghty highlighted the company's liquidity and raised revenue forecasts to counter a severe bond sell-off.
Shares of JetBlue Airways surged Tuesday as the company moved to stabilize investor confidence following a period of extreme financial distress. The rally occurred after the airline reported $2.2 billion in liquidity and $7 billion in unencumbered assets, while raising its full-year seat revenue growth forecast to a range between 13.5% and 14.5%.
CEO Joanna Geraghty argued that there is a "significant disconnect" between the company's actual financial results and the negative narrative driving the bond market. This intervention follows a sharp decline in the TrueBlue senior secured note price, which halved to approximately $47, sending yields above 30%.
Despite the recent stock rally and an 18.4% increase in unit revenue, JetBlue remains the worst-performing U.S. carrier. Its valuation has dropped 48% due to air traffic disruptions and surging fuel costs linked to the war in Iran. Fuel prices rose 57% year-over-year to $3.91 per gallon, continuing to pressure the airline's profit margins.
