Volvo Unveils Long Range Plug-in Hybrid XC60 and XC90

Volvo revealed updated plug-in hybrid versions of its XC60 and XC90 SUVs, designating them as the first long range plug-in hybrids in its lineup. The vehicles feature 41.2 kWh batteries integrated into the floor, providing preliminary EPA-based electric ranges of 78 miles for the XC60 and 73 miles for the XC90. The company claims these figures represent the longest electric range of any plug-in hybrid currently available in the American market.

The XC60 includes updated exterior styling and expanded driver assistance features, such as Automatic Emergency Steering and Braking. Both SUV models integrate Google's Gemini chatbot as the new voice assistant.

Production is scheduled to begin in late Fall 2026, with customer deliveries starting in early 2027. Volvo intends to use the revenue from increased hybrid sales to fund the development of future pure electric models, specifically the EX50 and EX60.
