Saudi Arabia Seeks Broad Investment Expansion in Bangladesh
Saudi Arabia aims to expand economic ties with Bangladesh by investing in AI, renewable energy, and fisheries following high-level diplomatic meetings in Dhaka.
The Government of Saudi Arabia is seeking to broaden its economic engagement with Bangladesh, shifting its focus from traditional manpower and energy trade toward high-tech and sustainable sectors. During a high-level meeting in Dhaka, a Saudi delegation led by Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Waleed Elkhereji discussed investments in artificial intelligence, information technology, solar power, renewable energy, food processing, and fisheries.
Bangladeshi officials, including Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, coordinated with the delegation to formalize these goals. To facilitate this shift, both nations plan to convene political consultations, a Joint Working Group meeting, and a joint investment session involving the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority later this year. Saudi Arabia also expressed an interest in recruiting a higher volume of skilled Bangladeshi workers.
Diplomatic ties were further strengthened through mutual invitations for high-level visits. The Saudi Crown Prince invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit the Kingdom, while Bangladesh extended a reciprocal invitation. State Minister Shama Obaed Islam described the visit as fruitful and indicated a strong belief that relations between the two nations would improve under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
