Wintermute Registers as US Broker-Dealer to Enter Wall Street

Wintermute registered its U.S. arm as a broker-dealer to trade in regulated markets and diversify beyond volatile digital currency assets.

Wintermute registered its U.S. arm as a broker-dealer, enabling the crypto-trading firm to enter regulated Wall Street markets. This registration places Wintermute USA under the jurisdiction of the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, making the firm eligible to serve as a designated market maker on exchanges including Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange.

Chief Executive Evgeny Gaevoy announced that the firm will initially trade in crypto-adjacent markets, such as digital-asset exchange-traded funds and commodities. Gaevoy stated that the firm plans to expand into tokenized stocks if regulators permit, with the goal of rivaling major market-making firms like Jane Street, Jump Trading, and Citadel Securities within three to five years.

The expansion follows a broader trend of crypto-centric firms diversifying into traditional financial services to reduce their dependence on volatile digital currency markets.
