PSD Rejects Muresan Government Ahead of Wednesday Vote

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) announced on September 28, 2026, that it will not vote in favor of the government led by Prime Minister-designate Siegfried Muresan. PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu rejected the government program as an insult to economic logic, claiming it lacked public policy and measures to reduce poverty. Grindeanu stated the party would not yield to political blackmail or media pressure, predicting that the upcoming Wednesday vote will lead to the government's collapse.

Following this announcement, Muresan criticized the PSD as dangerous and argued the party should not be allowed to decide the future of the country. He warned that Grindeanu has learned nothing from the 2017 and 2018 protests against Emergency Ordinance 13, suggesting the PSD would issue similar ordinances favoring theft if the public did not protest.

Grindeanu dismissed these warnings, asserting that the hashtag bubble of street protests has deflated. He claimed citizens now realize that slogans lack substance while their living conditions worsen, stating that the PSD is not afraid of any protests.
