Ørsted and Nuveen Commission 913 MW German Wind Farm

Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure have commissioned the Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, which has now entered commercial operation. The facility features 83 turbines rated at 11 MW each, providing a total installed capacity of 913 MW. This project increases Ørsted's total installed capacity in Germany to approximately 2.5 GW.

To ensure long-term viability, the owners secured corporate power purchase agreements totaling 786 MW with contract durations between 10 and 25 years. These agreements include commitments from Amazon for 350 MW, BASF for 186 MW, Covestro for 100 MW, and Google for 50 MW, alongside the REWE Group.

Located 72 km off the coast, the wind farm utilized a European supply chain involving firms from Denmark, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, with approximately 100 German companies contracted for construction. Operations and maintenance for the site are based in Norden-Norddeich and Emden.
