India Strengthens Defence Ties With Myanmar and Greece

India held high-level defence talks with Myanmar and Greece to enhance maritime security, shipbuilding, and bilateral military cooperation.

The Ministry of Defence of India conducted a series of strategic engagements with Myanmar and Greece in early October 2026 to expand its regional security partnerships.

In Guwahati on October 7, Indian Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Myanmar's Chief of Armed Forces Training Lt Gen Pyae Sone Linn co-chaired the third India-Myanmar Defence Cooperation Meeting. The talks focused on mutual security, training, and capacity building. Myanmar officials specifically acknowledged India's humanitarian aid provided through Operation Brahma following a major earthquake. This meeting built upon naval engagements from May 2026, when then-Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi visited Naypyitaw to provide the Myanmar Navy with a Rigid Inflatable Boat and a Small Arms Simulator.

Following the Myanmar talks, Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Greek Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Stefanos Gkikas in New Delhi on October 8. The discussions centered on shipbuilding, coastal security, and the safety of seafarers. Gkikas visited India to attend Sagarmanthan, the Great Oceans Dialogue 2026. These talks follow a broader pattern of cooperation, including July discussions regarding the INIOCHOS and Tarang Shakti air force exercises.
