Nigeria Democratic Congress Unveils Campaign Council and New Secretariat
The Nigeria Democratic Congress will inaugurate its National Campaign Council and commission a new national secretariat in Abuja on October 26.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has scheduled a series of events for Monday, October 26, 2026, in Abuja to prepare for the 2027 general elections. The day begins with a National Executive Committee meeting at 10:00 a.m. at the JD Event Centre, followed by the 2:00 p.m. commissioning of a new national secretariat in Jabi. The schedule concludes at 5:00 p.m. with the inauguration of the National Campaign Council, which will coordinate presidential, governorship, and National Assembly campaigns.
As part of the proceedings, the party will present Certificates of Return to its candidates and release a financial statement of account. National Publicity Secretary Osa Director stated that the party provided Expression of Interest forms free of charge to approximately 80 percent of its candidates, citing widespread poverty and economic hardship caused by the ruling All Progressives Congress. The NDC has challenged the All Progressives Congress to adopt similar financial transparency.
The National Executive Committee meeting was previously postponed from October 20 to accommodate the schedule of presidential candidate Peter Obi. Attendance for the committee meeting and the campaign council inauguration remains restricted to designated party officials and candidates.
