Cable Duct Fire Disrupts Eurostar Services to Netherlands

Eurostar services between the UK and the Netherlands remain severely disrupted as of July 10 following a rail infrastructure fire near Rotterdam.

On July 7, 2026, a cable duct fire near Rotterdam Stadion caused a major power cut that disabled signaling and points systems between Rotterdam Centraal and cities including Breda and Dordrecht. The infrastructure damage has led to severe disruptions for rail travel between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Eurostar has implemented alternative routes to maintain service, though these measures have resulted in significantly longer journey times and limited seat availability. Trains traveling between London and Amsterdam are currently bypassing Rotterdam, while services from France and Belgium to Amsterdam are bypassing both Schiphol and Rotterdam. Although the rail operator initially estimated that disruptions would persist until at least July 6, services remain unstable as of July 10.

In response to the situation, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office issued a travel advisory on July 10, 2026, warning passengers of the ongoing instability in services to the Netherlands.
