Jewish Family Services Sues Government Over Child Deportations
Jewish Family and Community Services of Pittsburgh filed a federal lawsuit alleging the Trump administration is illegally fast-tracking the deportation of unaccompanied immigrant children.
The Jewish Family and Community Services of Pittsburgh and six immigrant clients filed a federal lawsuit in Pennsylvania against the Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The lawsuit alleges the Trump administration is deliberately targeting unaccompanied immigrant children for rapid deportation to inflate removal statistics, specifically ignoring qualifications for Special Immigrant Juvenile status or trafficking survivor protections.
According to the filing, immigration judges are compressing dockets and denying children the time required to pursue legal pathways. This litigation follows a government decision to terminate a contract that previously provided legal representation for more than 20,000 unaccompanied children.
The Department of Homeland Security denied the allegations, asserting that the agency is "laser-focused on protecting children" and maintaining that all illegal aliens receive due process.
