Eurostat reports a 0.1% increase in Eurozone retail trade volume for August, reversing July's decline but missing analyst forecasts.
Eurostat reported that Eurozone retail trade volume rose 0.1% in August, reversing a 0.6% decrease recorded in July. The growth slightly missed the 0.2% forecast. On an annual basis, retail sales increased 0.8%, an improvement from the 0.4% growth seen in the previous month, though this also fell short of the 1.0% forecast.
Non-food products drove the growth with a 0.5% increase, while food, drinks, and tobacco edged up 0.1%. These gains were offset by a 1.9% decline in automotive fuel sales.
Performance varied significantly across member states. Germany saw a strong rebound of 1.3% following a sharp drop in July, while France experienced a 1.1% decline. Romania and Sweden also recorded monthly increases, whereas Luxembourg, Malta, and Latvia saw the largest decreases.
