Ninth China International Import Expo Opens in Shanghai

The ninth China International Import Expo begins in Shanghai, featuring over 4,000 overseas exhibitors and a significant delegation of Singaporean companies.

The ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai on November 5, 2026, running through November 10. The Ministry of Commerce expects 4,142 overseas exhibitors from 148 countries and regions, with total participation spanning 162 countries, regions, and international organizations. Canada serves as the guest country of honor, while firms from the United States, Germany, Britain, and France occupy the largest exhibition areas.

To promote inclusive trade, the Ministry of Commerce increased free exhibition space for the world's least developed countries by 17 percent. The event includes the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, which is scheduled to release the World Openness Report 2026 and an Export-to-China Capacity Development Report.

Among the participants, the Singapore Business Federation is leading a delegation of 54 companies from sectors including biotechnology, food, and professional services. SBF Chairman Mark Lee reported that Singaporean companies have generated over 533 million Singapore dollars in cumulative trade value through the expo since 2018. Lee noted a shift in the delegation toward small and medium-sized enterprises focused on digitalization and the green economy, viewing China as a strategic part of a diversified internationalization strategy.

Some foreign firms are using the expo to deepen long-term ties. Germany's Jungheinrich, for example, established a manufacturing base in Shanghai to serve 42 different countries and regions.
