Thirty Nations Conclude Largest Ever RIMPAC Naval Exercise

The United States Navy concluded the 30th iteration of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise on August 1, 2026, after operations began on June 24. Hosted by the U.S. Pacific Fleet and spearheaded by the U.S. 3rd Fleet, the exercise was the largest to date, involving 30 nations, 30 surface ships, five submarines, nearly 200 aircraft, and more than 30,000 personnel. Operating around the Hawaiian Islands under the theme "Partners: Integrated and Prepared," the forces conducted over 500 training events, including anti-submarine warfare and live-fire sinking exercises.

This iteration emphasized burden-sharing and leadership diversification. The Republic of Korea commanded the Combined Forces Maritime Component, while the Royal Canadian Air Force led the Combined Forces Air Component. The exercise also marked the debut of the Philippine Coast Guard, Fiji, Greece, Guatemala, Poland, and Spain. Training integrated new technologies, such as 3D printing and unmanned drones.

The drills occurred amid heightened global tensions, including U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran and maritime clashes between the Philippines and China in the South China Sea. While the exercise aimed to strengthen regional stability, local Hawaiian activists protested the event, citing military land lease disputes and fuel waste.
