Iran Launches Drones into Bahrain After US-GCC Security Meeting

Iran launched drone attacks against Bahrain on June 27, alleging US ceasefire violations following a high-level security meeting in Manama.

A fragile truce between the United States and Iran collapsed on June 27, 2026, when Iran launched drone attacks against Bahrain and other US-linked targets. The strikes followed a June 25 ministerial meeting in Manama, Bahrain, where US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members issued a joint statement characterizing Iranian defense capabilities as a regional threat.

Iranian officials condemned the US-GCC communique as provocative and meddlesome, asserting that their military capabilities are essential for national security. Tehran further alleged that the United States violated a June 18 memorandum of understanding and ceasefire agreement through strikes conducted on Friday, June 26, and a coordinated attack in Lebanon. In response, Iran launched drones into Bahrain and warned Gulf states against allowing their territories to be used for attacks against Iran.

The attacks drew widespread international condemnation. The GCC, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the Muslim World League denounced the strikes as flagrant violations of sovereignty and international law. British Minister of State for Trade Chris Bryant described the actions as appalling. While the GCC and US had initially welcomed the June 18 interim deal to end hostilities and restore traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the subsequent hostilities have undermined regional efforts to maintain security and stability.
