Democrats Plan Extensive Oversight Probes Into Elon Musk
Congressional Democrats plan wide-ranging investigations into Elon Musk's government contracts and leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency if they win the upcoming midterm elections.
Congressional Democrats are planning extensive oversight investigations into Elon Musk should they win control of the House in the upcoming midterm elections. The proposed probes focus on Musk's leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), specifically regarding alleged data theft from Social Security, the decimation of USAID, and claims that DOGE overstated its savings.
Lawmakers intend to scrutinize Musk's multibillion-dollar federal contracts via SpaceX and Tesla, as well as his alleged role in throttling Starlink internet access for the Ukrainian military to pressure President Volodymyr Zelenskyy into a peace deal with Russia. Some actions have already begun, with the House Homeland Security Committee demanding Musk testify under oath and the House Ways and Means Committee investigating data theft.
In Texas, Democratic candidates are leveraging Musk's perceived unpopularity. Gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa is suing for emails between Musk and Governor Greg Abbott, while Senate candidate James Talarico has accused Musk of attempting to purchase the state's natural resources. These efforts follow Musk's contribution of $276 million to Republican causes during the third quarter.
Fox News host Laura Ingraham characterized the Democratic strategy as an attempt to punish Musk and deter other billionaires from supporting the Republican Party. Meanwhile, House members Zoe Lofgren and Pramila Jayapal have cited astounding conflicts of interest and corruption regarding Musk's government contracts.
