Texas Voter Registration Deadline Ends October 5

Texas residents must register to vote or update their addresses by October 5 to participate in the November 3 general election.

The Texas Secretary of State established October 5, 2026, as the statewide deadline for residents to register to vote or update their registration for the general election on November 3. The office noted that the deadline falls 29 days before the election because the standard 30-day mark occurred on a Sunday.

Eligible voters must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years old by Election Day, and residents of the county where they apply. While Texas does not offer traditional online registration, residents can register through the Texas Department of Public Safety during driver's license or identification card transactions. Applicants using mail must ensure their forms are postmarked by October 5; the Secretary of State recommends obtaining a manual postmark at a U.S. Postal Service retail counter to ensure timely submission.

In Dallas County, residents can also deliver forms in person to the county election office. Following the registration deadline, early voting will run from October 19 through October 30. The deadline to apply for a ballot by mail is October 23.
